
Dr. Hillel Laks
Dr. Hillel Laks, MD, is a board-certified general surgeon based in Los Angeles with over 60 years of medical experience. A graduate of the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg (1965), he completed his surgical residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. Dr. Laks founded the UCLA Heart Transplant Program in 1984 and the nation’s first Alternative Heart Transplant Program in 1992. He is renowned for pioneering the first bypass surgery performed on a donor heart prior to transplantation.
